Novelty Races (Snowmobile & ATV)

The races are run by age group for each of the events. Age groups are:

All the events are timed with the fastest three times in each event winning a trophy. The first event is the 5-pole slalom course in which contestants weave in and around the poles.

The second event is usually a cross country style race with tight turns and bumps. The entire course is flagged on both sides and the riders must stay on the trail. In the event of not enough snow the cross country race will be changed to the ball drop event.
In the ball drop event 5, 3-gallon pails are set out and the rider is given 5 tennis balls. The object is to ride from pail to pail dropping a ball into the pail, if the ball pops out the rider must pick up the ball and try again.

The final event is the “Blind Slalom” in which the driver is blind folded and the passenger must get both riders and machine through the slalom course using verbal commands only. This is an excellent test of couples back seat driving skills.

Fireworks

Saturday Feb 13/10 at the boat launch. The display is done by Fireworks Spectaculars out of Calgary, AB. It is performed by trained fireworks Techs. The display if the weather permits will last approximately 12-15 mins.

The best place to watch the display would be from the boat launch or main street, between On The Beach Foods(Howards) and The Loft (Old gas station).

This display is made possible by the generous Donations from the businesses, people of Alberta Beach, and surrounding areas.
This is the fourth show now and so far everyone enjoys the display. I know this will be another successful show. To make a donation one can call Sheila 924-8301 or Barb 924-9995

Broom Ball Tournament

Broom ball is played on a hockey rink, with rules very similar to hockey. Each team has 5 players and a goalie. The center line (Red) is used for off sides. All players must be on side to advance over the center line. Equipment is simply running shoes and broom shaped sticks (supplied by tournament committee). The ball used is a rubberized plastic ball, a little larger than a softball. The object of the game is to have FUN & GET some exercise! The more teams, the merrier. In charge of this event is: Kelly Muir of Alberta Beach, phone 780-924-8369. Alberta Beach outdoor skating rink, February 14th, first draw 10:00 am depending on number of teams entered.

Snow Sculpturing Competition

For the 2nd year in a row; we actually have a large enough area where all the snow sculptures can be made and seen, in one convenient spot!.

Off the Beach Foods parking lot is the perfect area! Blocks of snow 4'wide, 4'high, and 8' long will be made. There are a few basic rules. No color, just snow is allowed. Very minimal accessories are allowed. If you make a snowman, you may use rocks for the eyes. That's just an example, but you get the picture. JUST SNOW is your best bet. To register you can call Chere at BeachComber 780-924 3242. Judging will take place Sunday 'after the lunch hour'.
